The Deadly Affair
I found the 1966 British Drama/Thriller to be rather convoluted and without much edge for a spy film, especially considering the cast.
It stars James Mason, Simone Signoret, Maximilian Schell, Harriet Andersson and Harry Andrews.
Mason is a British secret agent baffled by the sudden suicide of a Foreign Office superior whose security clearance Mason had been working on. Mason has a hunch that it my have something to do with the dead agent's wife (Simone Signoret)--a concentration camp survivor.
Mason hires retiring Inspector Harry Andrews to do some extracurricular detective work. What they find is worse than what they imagined.
If that weren't enough for poor Mason, he has to contend with a oft-unfaithful wife (Andersson).
Considering its 7.0 on IMDb however, you may enjoy the film more than my wife and I did.
