Really enjoyed the 1948 drama PORTRAIT FROM LIFE (US:  THE GIRL IN THE PAINTING) starring Guy Rolfe, Mai Zetterling, Robert Beatty and Herbert Lom.

A German professor (Arnold Marle) sees a portrait in an art gallery which looks exactly like his daughter, who is assumed to have died in the war. Having just found out his "best girl" got married and having nothing better to do, Rolfe, intrigued by the painting, decides to try to find the daughter.

The girl (Mai Zetterling) has been living as an amnesiac in Europe, under the protection of a former Nazi bigwig (Lom). British army major Guy Rolfe tries to cut through red tape and a tangled-up espionage plot to rescue the girl.

There's a copy on YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xy0aij4YF6M.

Don't be put off by the 2:29:08 time of the YouTube video, the film is over at the 1:25 mark.
