The 1961 Brit noir PAYROLL (US: I PROMISED TO PAY) is an excellent payroll-heist film.
It stars Michael Craig, Francoise Prevost, Billie Whitelaw, William Lucas, Kenneth Griffith and Tom Bell.
Whitelaw is a dominating force as the wife-that-was-wronged when her husband is killed in the payroll heist. The police have an idea of who the culprits are, but can't get the evidence they need. In steps Whitelaw who uses psychological warfare to drive one of the co-conspirators into breaking down.
The film moves along well and keeps you engaged.
It's 7.0 on IMDb and Keaney gave it a 3.0--well deserved.
