Gaslight (1940)

Finally got around to viewing the original GASLIGHT, the Brit 1940 noir. Most are familiar with the 1944 Boyer-Bergman vehicle. This one stars Anton Walbrook, Diana Wynyard, Frank Pettingell, Cathleen Cordelll & Robert Newton.
I usually prefer the original over later efforts, but in this case, I'd give the nod to the American 1944 film. It could also be that since I knew the story and viewed the 1944 first, the plot was not new.
Keaney gave the Brit film a 5 and "only" a 4 for the American effort.
Bergman did win an Oscar for her performance and Angela Lansbury makes her film debut as a maid in the 1944 film.
Both films are recommended.
