The Upturned Glass
The 1947 Brit noir THE UPTURNED GLASS is an excellent noir. It stars James Mason, Rosamund John, Pamela Mason and Ann Stephens.
Director Lawrence Huntington manages to keep you engaged throughout the film.
Mason is a prosperous brain surgeon. Having saved Rosamund John's daughter from blindness, the married John falls in love with the doctor. The illicit lovers conduct an affair while John's husband is out of the country. When John dies mysteriously, Mason suspects that the culprit is his own jealous sister-in-law Pamela Kellino (played by Ann Stephens, Mason's real-life wife at the time and co-writer).
As the film was coming to an end, I thought a particular ending would be most appropriate and different from the same-old, same-old. Viola! The writers did too.
Highly recommended.
