the meanest gal in town (1934, comedy)

Strange but funny RKO movie with El Brendel, Zasu Pitts, Pert Kelton and James Gleason. El Brendel is a barber in a small town who promises to marry his long time, and long-sufferring, girlfriend (Zasu Pitts) once his business picks up ... which unexpectedly does after he hires a (female) manicurist who proves to be a big success with the male clients. Unfortunately his girlfriend becomes extremely jealous of her.

James Gleason plays a loafer who is one of the manicurist's wannabe suitors. One of his funniest moments is when he (now a relief barber) tries to stop the hair on the back of a client's head from sticking up.
