Actors & Sin
Two movies for the price of one? Yes, with the 1952 ACTORS & SIN. The ACTORS part of the film stars Edward G. Robinson and Marsha Hunt. SIN stars Eddie Albert, Tracey Roberts and Jenny Hecht.
Part One, "Actor's Blood", is based on a Ben Hecht tale of theatrical intrigue. Edward G. Robinson plays a Barrymoresque Shakespearean actor who never really made it in acting but is living through his daughter (Hunt) who has one major success followed by a years-long fall from grace. Robinson is in total denial of his daughters "talents" and this leads to a very interesting end to this story.
Part Two, "Woman of Sin", is another Ben Hecht story. Eddie Albert stars as a Hollywood agent who is not against playing all the angles and is convinced he is surrounded by crooks and incompetents. The action revolves around a sensationally sexy screenplay entitled Woman of Sin--written by a precocious 9-year old girl (played by Jenny Hecht, Ben Hecht's real life daughter). In what might be the most over-the-top performance in film history, she detracts from what could have been a better film. Sadly, in real life, she died at the age of 27, either a suicide or accidental drug overdose.
The film rates a 5.6 on IMDb. Part One is worth a view and possibly Part Two just to see how bad things can get.
Available commercially via VCI Entertainment.
