The Jackpot Empty The Jackpot

I thought it was time for some lighter fare and decided to view the 1950 comedy, THE JACKPOT starring Jimmy Stewart, Barbara Hale, James Gleason, Fred Clark and Alan Mowbray.  Also present as children are Natalie Wood and Tommy Rettig (of Lassie fame).

THE JACKPOT is a satire of quiz programs. James Stewart stars as Bill Lawrence, an average Joe who picks up the phone one day, answers a simple question, and suddenly finds himself the recipient of a radio quiz-show jackpot. Tons of prizes are shipped to Lawrence's house, to the delight of his wife Amy (Barbara Hale) and his kids. Unfortunately, the Lawrences must now contend with the IRS, who are very interested in their pound of flesh. The tax bill is about a years salary and more than 10X their savings.  Thus the mad scramble to get back to even begins.

IMDb rating is 6.8 and I would give it that or a bit higher.
