Yellow Sky Empty Yellow Sky

I don't watch a lot of Westerns but just for variety (and the cast) thought I'd view the 1948 Crime/Western YELLOW SKY starring Gregory Peck, Anne Baxter, Richard Widmark, Robert Arthur, John Russell, James Barton and Henry Morgan.

Outlaw leader Gregory Peck, after robbing a bank and crossing an extremely inhospitable desert, takes refuge in the frontier ghost town Yellow Sky. The only inhabitants are elderly James Barton and his pretty granddaughter Anne Baxter. Barton reveals that there's gold hereabouts, prompting a few of Peck's companions--especially Richard Widmark (being his usual creepy self)--to plot the old man's demise and claim the treasure for themselves. For his part, Peck is basically honorable (with an eye for Baxter too), and offers to split fifty-fifty with Barton. The rest of his gang have a different opinion of what the percentage should be.

Peck is good as usual and Baxter is excellent as one feisty and capable female who can shoot with the best of them.  Barton as Grandpa also works well.

It's a good film and has a 7.5 IMDb rating.

I guess it's time to look at some of the Western noirs I've collected.
