If you are looking for a bit of a different noir, check out the 1948 Brit noir CORRIDOR OF MIRRORS starring Eric Portman, Edana Romney, Barbara Mullen and Hugh Sinclair (of Saint fame).
Portman is in great form in this one and Romney does a fine job as his love interest. Portman plays a contemporary artist who desires to live in the past. He surrounds himself with Renaissance artwork, obsessed with the notion that Romney and he are reincarnations of the lovers in a 15th century painting.
Seems critical reaction to CORRIDOR OF MIRRORS was split right down the middle: American critics found the film profound, while British commentators dismissed it as empty and ponderous.
I don't know about profound, but I wouldn't categorize it as empty and ponderous either. Again, Portman was excellent in his role and made the film worth watching. It did keep you guessing about how it was all going to end.
Keaney gave it a 2.5 (a reasonable grade). IMDb grade is 6.9.
