Beyond the Forest

While I acknowledge Bette Davis as an accomplished actress, is there anyone more annoying?  It's all I can do to not jump up and b-slap the TV hoping that it will somehow reach her.

That aside, she gives a "Bette Davis" performance in the 1949 noir BEYOND THE FOREST.  Joseph Cotten, David Brian, Ruth Roman and Minor Watson round out the cast.

This is a fairly unremarkable effort, except for Davis.  I don't think anyone could have delivered a better, "What a dump!" in describing her humble abode.  Davis is a small-town girl with big-city desires and ideas.  You can imagine how obnoxious she is--continually--stewing in her own discontent and sharing it with everyone within ear shot.

She hatches a plan to trap millionaire industrialist Brain with sexual favors and ride his coattails to mink coats and as far away from Loyalton (her small town) as possible.

Does she succeed?  Well,...

It comes in at a 7.2 on IMDb (higher than I would rank it) and Keaney gives a middle-of-the-road 2.0 (more in line with my evaluation).
