Detour (1946)

Post by Bruce R on Mon Nov 21, 2016 1:06 am

Was actually looking for my copy of the 1945 noir CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE when my wife, who decided I needed some help, saw the 1946 noir DETOUR and asked about it.  I said it was a great noir and that although we had already viewed it, I'd be glad to see it again.  Her vote was final.

As it turned out, we didn't really remember much of the film and it had been 12 years since we last viewed it.

There are any number of films you could argue whether they are really noirs or not. DETOUR is NOT one of them.  Keaney gave it a high 4.0 out of 5.0 and I would grade it at least that high.

It stars Tom Neal and Ann Savage.  Neal does a superb job in the lead role and Savage is wonderful in the supporting role.  If you haven't seen this one, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

I'm not going to say anything more about it, so spoilers from me.  Grab a copy and ENJOY.

Yes, this one is a classic noir.  And Ann Savage is something else.

Anyway, in the spirit of the Season, I (again) thank you, Bruce, for almost singlehandedly keeping this forum going.  I enjoy your posts and often find excellent viewing suggestions.

It looks like we have about 30 people following along here.  Not really very many but I hope the posts continue for that select few.  So, to you/your family and all who read this forum, I wish you an excellent Holiday Season, Merry Christmas, or  _____.  And thanks for being here.

Thanks for the hat tip, inDefiance. For some time now I feel like I'm engaged in some sort of soliloquy. Would sure like some more participation on the Board--like in the old days. I remember this was one busy, energetic place with lots of info, movie picks, etc., going back and forth.

I have been meaning to talk to John about putting in a few million for PR, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
