When I think of noirs, I do not think of color. That notwithstanding, the 1956 in-color noir A KISS BEFORE DYING is an above average entry.

It stars Robert Wagner, who gives a very nice performance as a gold-digger with no conscience whatsoever. Also stars Jeffrey Hunter (who obviously does not smoke a pipe in real life), Joanne Woodward. George Macready (you may well not recognize the name, but you would recognize his voice) and Mary Astor (who was totally unrecognizable to me).

Keaney gave it a 3.5/5. IMDb is not as generous with a 6.8.

Definitely worth a view.

I saw this one after reading the book, and I was impressed with how they handled the twist. No movie could do justice to the way the twist was presented in the book because of the way the narrative played with POV and our perceptions. But I think this version came closer than the more recent remake. Smile

Interesting how often the book cannot be duplicated...or exceeded.

I don't often how time to recreation-ally read, but I'll make a note of this one as it sound very interesting.

Thanks for the heads up.
